In the latest episode of Keeping Up With SB19, the P-pop boy group is currently going viral in South Korea, and for all the right reasons. When they released Gento earlier this year, the hard-hitting bop quickly made the rounds on TikTok, where it eventually became a viral dance challenge. To date, the official Gento sound has been used in a jaw-dropping 1.7 million videos on the platform, translating to hundreds of millions of views and exposure for the lead single off their PAGTATAG! EP. Add to those other recent successes, such as winning the 2023 Billboard Fan Vote, and this new era has so far been allergic to flopping.

But the Gento hype is far from over, especially in South Korea where it seemingly has taken a life of its own with its staying power. ICYDK, SB19 has a growing fanbase in Korea where even K-pop idols like ZEROBASEONE’s Ricky recommending I WANT YOU to his fans. That’s not all though as numerous K-pop idols have been jumping on the Gento dance trend that has been going viral in the country, some of whom have done it multiple times already. Scroll down for a growing list of the idols who’ve shown love to SB19’s viral hit.

THE BOYZ

You know the song lives rent-free in their mind when not one, but three members of a K-pop group do the dance challenge, multiple times. Such is the case for THE BOYZ as Jacob, Sunwoo, and Juyeon have all done the choreo on stage. And it isn’t just SB19 who’s on a world tour as THE BOYZ have done the dance steps not just in Manila, but also in Bangkok, Jakarta, and most recently, KCON LA.

KEP1ER

Aside from the joy of seeing Dayeon doing justice to the dance, we’re gonna think of this as a treat for Filipino Kep1ians because the cover was posted the day before Kep1er’s Manila show was supposed to be held before it got canceled.

ATEEZ

A’TINY, this one was for us. After Hongjoong mentioned Gento during his radio program, we hoped and prayed that they would do the actual challenge. And those prayers were answered when San became the latest idol to throw his hat in the trend.

CRAVITY

You know it’s going to be an iconic TikTok when it stars Hyeongjun and Taeyoung. It’s safe to say that they ate that up and gave, in our opinion, one of the best K-pop covers of Gento.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate this K-pop x P-pop moment when 1theK included SB19 among K-pop groups like ATEEZ, Stray Kids, and LE SSERAFIM for Mirae’s Count Dance video.

LUN8 AND 8TURN

During a segment on a video featuring LUN8 and 8TURN for Hello82, the two K-pop groups had to guess which language the song playing was. And one of the songs they played? Why SB19’s Gento, of course. It’s giving P-pop rise.

BONUS: &TEAM

Technically, K is part of a Japanese group, but a win is a win regardless. It already gets us excited thinking Gento was played in the HYBE building. Manifesting other HYBE groups to do the challenge.

How THEBLACKLABEL’s Bryan Chase Is Helping Take K-Hip-Hop Global

line
FYI, TAEYANG was the one who reached out to Bryan.

After his impressive feature on TAEYANG’s Down to Earth EP, Bryan Chase is aiming for bigger things as one of THEBLACKLABEL’s newest artists.

Related: Meet LØREN, The BLACKPINK Collaborator And Rising Korean Rockstar

While we all love a good K-pop song and group, the Korean music industry is a vibrant scene home to artists that are making their version of art across varied genres. Such is the case when it comes to Korean hip-hop and R&B, genres that have been growing in listeners around the world in recent years. And one name to keep an eye out for is Bryan Chase.

2U

By the virtue of the fact that he’s a part of THEBLACKLABEL, YG Entertainment’s sub-label home to TAEYANG, JEON SOMI, LØREN, and more, as well as the only Korean rapper currently signed with Interscope Records, Bryan is turning heads. But even during his early days as an underground rapper, he was already proving his talent.

Bryan first made noise in the hip-hop scene as a member of The Cohort before expanding to solo ventures, with acclaim from outlets around the world following soon after. In 2023, he made his comeback with a definitive period when he featured on TAEYANG’s Nightfall, which was a part of the BIGBANG member’s 2023 EP Down to Earth. While Bryan is known for hip-hop, he stunned on the pop track with his vocals.

Bryan Chase

Not long after, he dropped his debut EP, 2U, as well as the lead single of the same name, which features a producer credit from 24, the lead beat-maker for BLACKPINK. Coupled with a verse from A Boogie, the track sings with its melodic verses and production that creates an immersive, cinematic experience. Aiding in this significant new chapter for Bryan Chase is that the music video for 2U transports viewers into a spellbinding multiverse and captures the camaraderie of the two artists from across the world.

All of this to say, THEBLACKLABEL artist is one to watch out for. Following the release of his 2U EP, we got a chance to chat with Bryan as he opened up about his new music, working with TAEYANG, and more. Read what he has to say below.

How would you describe who Bryan Chase is as an artist?

Inquisitive, dedicated and honest.

How would you describe your creative process in terms of making music? Where do you get your inspiration from?

My ideas come from life experiences. I’m inspired by different places, new environments, and especially by good music. I love exploring new sounds and discovering new artists, that process keeps me inspired and motivates me to keep creating. Usually the starting point for me begins with a thought or an emotion and that takes me into a rabbit hole sonically.

Was there a specific moment in your life that made you decide to become a musician?

It wasn’t until I moved back to Seoul from the U.S that I took interest in making music. I was hanging out with a good friend, who is an artist, a lot and he showed me around and what the process was like. Eventually I tried making my own songs and haven’t stopped since.

How did your collaboration with TAEYANG for “Nightfall” come about? What was it like working with TAEYANG?

When TAEYANG reached out to me to collaborate on the single, “Nightfall,” from his album “Down to Earth,” I was completely surprised, but incredibly excited and thankful for the opportunity. Working with him opened my eyes to new perspectives and new experiences and it was a huge learning experience. Simply being around him and soaking in his presence taught me so much. It was truly an honor to have had the chance to work with him.

While you’re known for hip-hop, you showcase your impressive vocals on Nightfall. Does your mindset change when it comes to rapping or singing on a track?

Definitely. For “Nightfall,” I was so inspired by TAEYANG’s melodies and lyrics. I wanted to add emotion and depth, with melodies and words that flowed, to capture the feeling I had when I first heard the song.

Bryan Chase

Considering that 2U is your debut EP, what message are you hoping to deliver with the album?

To always rise above adversity.

Is there a song on the EP that resonates with you the most?

All the songs on the EP hold personal meaning for me, but if I had to choose, “2U” is the one that resonates the most with me.

How does it feel being signed to THEBLACKLABEL and why did you decide to sign with them?

Becoming part of THEBLACKLABEL gave me a sense of belonging, where I feel understood and my music is valued. I have faith in the team’s dedication to push new boundaries and sounds. Joining THEBLACKLABEL felt like the right step to grow my music towards the next level.

Debuting under THEBLACKLABEL and being the only Korean rapper signed currently to Interscope Records means that a lot of eyes are on you. With that said, how are you dealing with the pressure and expectations, if there are any?

I keep the focus on what I’m most passionate about, music, and stay true to my style. When I feel pressured, I channel that energy into motivation and use it to push my limits and create music that’s reflective of who and where I am. Also, having a great support system keeps me grounded and helps me move forward.

Has the way you make music changed from when you started out as a musician to now being signed with a major record label?

The way I make music has definitely changed a lot since I first started out.  I’ve learned so much working at THEBLACKLABEL, collaborating with producers, artists and engineers. My sound is much more refined and elevated than when I first started out and that has helped me reach a wider audience and grow overall as an artist.

Bryan Chase

What impact or mark are you hoping to leave in the music industry?

I strive to create timeless music that people can connect with and enjoy at any time. I hope to inspire other artists and have contributed to how the music landscape has evolved, even in the slightest way.

What song/s or performances of yours should would-be fans check out if they want to get to know more who Bryan Chase is?

Both “2U,” which features A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and TAEYANG’s “Nightfall.”

Andrea Brillantes, Kyle Echarri, And Xyriel Manabat Solve A Mystery In New Series “Senior High”

line
Something's not right in Northford High.

Nothing is what it seems in Northford High. Check out what to expect in the upcoming teen drama Senior High!

Trigger Warning: The following article and subject matter include mentions of bullying, abuse, and suicide.

Related: 6 Times Blythe Was That Independent Baddie

When the first teaser trailer for upcoming teleserye Senior High dropped earlier this year, the response was interesting, to say the least. But that first look wasn’t all that the show was going to be as the series, produced by ABS-CBN and Dreamscape Entertainment, dropped its first trailer over the weekend, and it’s filled with teen drama, industry big-names, and a whole heaping of intrigue.

In the dog-eat-dog world of high school, tensions and emotions run high. But who could have thought anyone would be embroiled in a death of a student under mysterious circumstances? Lead star Andrea Brillantes as Sky embarks on a mission to find out the truth about her twin sister’s apparent suicide, but it seems like secrecy and power run through the halls of Northford High, and that won’t be an easy task.

Interested yet? If the trailer set to SB19’s Bazinga didn’t convince you to check it out, below are more reasons to stay tuned to this new show!

ANDREA BRILLANTES SLAYS, AS PER USUAL

Andrea Brillantes plays two roles in the series: twins Sky and Luna, who go to school at the prestigious Northford High, where cliques and hierarchies run rampant, and a tragic event will change the students’ lives. Luna has big dreams, but is unfortunately being taken advantage of by the clique of popular rich kids led by Z (Daniella Stranner). Brave and headstrong Sky is new to the school and will do anything to find out what really happened to her sister.

The young actress committed herself to the role. In a blogger conference for the series, Andrea shared that she did extensive research to fully characterize Sky and Luna. Being very specific with characterizing each role, from their humor to the way they walked, allowed her to portray them distinctly. She is able to do so much with each twin, and we can’t wait to see her show-stopping performance.

VETERAN ACTORS WITH THE NEW GENERATION

Acting alongside Andrea Brillantes is a stellar Gen Z cast comprised of Kyle Echarri, Xyriel Manabat, Juan Karlos Labajo, Elijah Canlas, Zaijan Jaranilla, Daniela Stranner, Miggy Jimenez, Tommy Alejandrino, and Gela Atayde in her first acting role where she also co-stars alongside her mother, Sylvia Sanchez. Dubbed the “future of Philippine entertainment,” the young cast is set to portray a wide variety of characters alongside “the industry’s finest”—a set of established veteran actors: Angel Aquino, Baron Geisler, Mon Confiado and so many more.

Senior High boasts a star-studded ensemble with the acting chops needed for such a project. Seeing Andrea go toe-to-toe with Angel Aquino in the trailer with bursts of emotion was a great moment that immediately established each of their perspectives and their relationship. Angel herself also praised the young actors. “Alam kong magagaling sila,” she says in the conference.

CLASSIC HIGH SCHOOL SHENANIGANS—WITH A TWIST

The first teaser for the series showed a bunch of kids partying and doing things they probably shouldn’t be doing in a Euphoria-esque haze, but it kept many things about the narrative hidden until the full trailer.

Sure, the series delves into the usual—partying, romances, and secrets—as well as prevalent problems like fitting in at a new school, the popular rich kids taking advantage of the smart kid, parental pushback against dreams and aspirations, and so much more. The twist about Luna and her death, as well as Sky’s desperation to get to the bottom of things, adds a whole new dimension to the series.

THRILLING DRAMA—AND SERIOUS ISSUES

Luna’s apparent suicide doesn’t appease Sky nor Sylvia Sanchez’s character, the security guard who saw something go down before the incident. And with all the rumors about the popular clique mistreating Luna, something is definitely up. Andrea also revealed that each character in the series has their own storyline, so it will be interesting to find out what really goes on in the lives of the young students of Northford High.

With Luna’s mysterious death, the series shows that it’s not just your run-of-the-mill teen drama. Similar to the likes of Elite, Riverdale (Season 1, at least), and One of Us is Lying, Senior High will delve into a mystery and possible murder where the characters work together to get to the bottom of things, facing danger and action along the way.

With such intense subject matter, it’s important to deal with serious issues sensitively. Fortunately, Andrea and Elijah Canlas shared that such relevant and important topics like bullying, suicide, and abuse will be talked about and dealt with in proper ways.

As Filipino entertainment diversifies the stories they tell and the way they tell it, it’s exciting to bear witness to all the new that comes next. Senior High will air on the Kapamilya Channel this August 28.

What is Girl Math? The TikTok Trend Exposes the Most Gen Z Reasons For Horrible Money Management

line
Girl math is for those with a mind of a mastermind.

The basic principle of girl math: we’re making money by spending money.

Related: What Is Girl Dinner? A Tiktok Food Trend That’s Actually Relatable

We’re not broke, we’re broqué. That Gen Z phrase proved how we, the millennial successors, sometimes fumble adulting with seriously sus financial decisions. With the introduction of Girl Math, you’re probably assuming we’re just getting creative with catchy excuses to justify wasting, throwing, straight-up blowing money—whatever you wanna call it. Totally acceptable, but who would pass on better deals and “basically free” money? Nope, not Gen Z girlies.

The TikTok FYP that served Girl Dinner now delivers Girl Math. The term was hyped thanks to New Zealand radio hosts Vaughn, Hayley, and Fletch. In one of their segments, they totally backed a caller who splurged $5,600 on travel, accommodation, and tickets for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Sydney. The trio went all out explaining that this spending spree was, you guessed it, “basically free.”

The calculations behind Girl Math aren’t exactly new, but the way we talk about ’em—connecting them to shared experiences and the thrill of treating ourselves—is totally refreshing. Here’s the rundown of how we’re making money by spending money.

Cash isn’t “Real Money”

@lucywelcher

Just speaking my truth cash just doesn’t register in my brain😩

♬ original sound – LUCY

It’s true that cash isn’t real money. Whether it’s due to the pandemic or technological advancements, we’re heading towards a cashless era. Today, the real money is in your bank cards, cash apps like Gcash, and even Apple Pay. That being said, if it’s not directly coming out of my bank account, it’s not real.

Example 1: If I find some loose change or crumpled cash at the bottom of my bag and use that to score dinner. Technically, my meal’s on the house. Who needs Girl Dinner when you’ve got this kind of math?

Skipping Sales, Discounts, and Better Deals is “Losing Money”

@uhkneesxh the thing i hate about commuting is that you need to switch modes of transportation/vehicle just to get to the place you really need to go to 🥲 it’s so tiring fr #fyp #girlmath ♬ Pink (Bad Day) [From Barbie The Album] – Lizzo

We’ve been told that sales, promos, and discounts are a scam. But when we pay full price after a seasonal sale, aren’t we losing money? Basically, missing out on the better deal translates to losing money. Yes, that includes convenience fees and shipping fees.

Example 1: Think about shipping fees as little leaks of money. If it costs an additional ₱250 for free shipping in LazBeauty, I’m spending that additional ₱250. Trust me, it’s the best deal! Imagine getting one more makeup product AND free shipping?

Example 2: Choosing comfort isn’t losing money. While it’s an additional cost of ₱80 for a Joyride compared to your usual UV Express, you’re getting there hassle-free. If you’re swiping left on the better deal, that teensy convenience fee is “losing money.”

Girl, it’s “Basically Free”

@samjamessssss oh how i love being a woman #girlmath ♬ original sound – samjamess

The best part? Everything’s basically free. But before you start thinking that it’s too much, humor me. Even I know some scenarios involving Girl Math might seem silly, like considering anything under ₱100 as a cost-free purchase. Here’s the real deal: most times, we’re using an actual combination of two economic principles: cost-per-wear and prospective cost.

Cost-per-wear: The cost of clothing pieces, bags, and accessories, divided by the number of times you’ve worn them. The lower the cost-per-wear, the thriftier the purchase. Imagine splurging on a pair of rare sneakers for ₱18,000. If you sport them daily throughout the year, break down that ₱18,000 by diving it through 365 days. Your grand total: ₱50.

Prospective Cost: A cost no longer exists if paid prior to the event. For instance, those tickets, hotel bookings, and restaurant reservations? Look, they’re ‘basically free.’ By the time you’re sipping fresh mango shakes in Bali or screaming the lyrics to Illicit Affairs at the Eras Tour, those expenses are far from gone. If I were you, treat yourself to a whole new outfit. After all, you practically traveled for free.

Bigger Problems and Baseless Stereotypes

@samjamessssss i said what i said #girlmath ♬ original sound – samjamess

I totally agree–now, math is actually fun. The real question is, does Girl Math rationalize a serious problem? While the trend may seem harmless, it actually perpetuates the baseless stereotype that often portrays women as poor money managers. From acts of ‘self-sabotage’ to outright ‘bank-breaking,’ some content creators believe that Girl Math should be canceled. Yes, we should save for medical emergencies, rent, and things that truly ‘matter.’ But here’s the thing: Girl Math never mentions anything about (not) saving money. A spontaneous trip, pamper day, or indulging in online shopping doesn’t mean most of us don’t have a stash somewhere.

If I’m being honest, we’ve progressed enough that women tosses the shame game and guilt after another shopping spree. I mean, we’re well aware of compulsive purchases and its consequences. Duh, we’ve all binged Confessions of a Shopaholic. We’re simply all about what we deserve—and if we feel we’ve earned something, you better believe we’ve earned it.

Highlights Of Bruno Major’s Manila Concert That Gave Best Performer Core

Three years later and it was worth the wait seeing Bruno Major live and performing all his sentimental bops.

Emotional, nostalgic, and calming: The best adjectives to define Bruno Major’s music. His ability to convey emotions through his sentimental and deep songs, which address themes of love, heartbreak, and emotional experiences, is what listeners love him for. The British singer-songwriter, whose fans had been waiting for his return for five years, came back to Manila for his concert, Tour of the Planet Earth 2023, to captivate his fans with outstanding vocals and performance, soulful melodies, and flawless poetry.

Widely recognized for the songs Nothing, Easily, and The Most Beautiful Thing, Bruno Major initially won our hearts during his Philippine debut at Karpos Live in 2018, and ever since then, we have become complete suckers for his live performances. He was slated to perform at the Wanderland Music & Arts Festival 2020, but the event was later postponed.

Now that he had finally returned, the New Frontier Theater was brimming with pleasure and joy from concert-goers with the successful production that sold out thousands of tickets. If you missed the show and your curiosity is kicking in, here are some of Bruno Major’s performance highlights you wish you had witnessed.

A Stunning Opening Number

Bruno Major never ceases to amaze his fans with the perfect opener, The Show Must Go On. Using his soothing voice, a guitar, and the help of the band, he connected with his audience through this heartfelt track. Even though he informed us that he was sick and couldn’t speak the morning of the event, he still delivered us the best opening number.

Here’s To The “Nothing” Enthusiasts

“Tracksuits and red wines, movies for two,” the moment Bruno Major sang the opening lines of Nothing, the crowd did not think twice about cheering for excitement as they sang together with him. He highlighted how it was unexpected and surprising for him when Nothing went viral and was adored by many out of all his songs, and after being unable to play the music live as it was released during the pandemic, he finally got to perform it during the show.

The Art Of Instrumental Solos

What’s a Bruno Major concert without his guitar and piano solos? With nearly every song he performed with the constancy of energy from the start to the encore, he delivered high-caliber instrumental solos that left the audience members in fascination.

A Show-Stopping Double Encore

For his last song, Bruno Major might have ended all situationships with We Were Never Really Friends. A show-stopping performance with powerful guitar strums, and heartbreaking lyrics, Bruno Major closed his show with a loud bang and a little prick in our hearts.

The crowd yelled for one last song just as we started to believe Bruno Major actually left, but he didn’t let the Manila crowd down and returned to the stage with his band to perform the well-known song Easily.

Meet Tiana Kocher, The Young Pinay R&B Star You’ll Want In Your Playlist ASAP

line
Yes to more Filipinas in R&B.

From Manila to Los Angeles, Tiana Kocher is making waves in the music scene.

Related: Denise Julia Is So Much More Than An Ariana Grande Soundalike

If there’s one thing we’ve been seeing a lot more as of late in the R&B scene that we’ve been loving, it’s the increased representation of female Asians in the space. Rising Vietnamese artist thuy scored herself a viral hit earlier this year thanks to the bop that is girls like me don’t cry. Meanwhile, Filipino R&B rookie Denise Julia make her mark on the scene last year with NVMD and is showing no signs of slowing down as she takes her brand of R&B international.

And speaking of Pinay R&B excellence, one name you also should pay attention to is Tiana Kocher. Tiana, who was born and raised in Manila, already showed a knack for music at an early age. Later on, she moved to Los Angeles, where she currently resides, and that was when her career began to take flight.

Tiana Kocher

To press play on a Tiana Kocher track is to be enveloped in harmonious vocals and killer beats that give it to you. There’s a mix of youthfulness meets assuredness that meets in her music, making for tracks that only a confident artist like Tiana can come up with.

It’s no wonder then that she’s already worked with a who’s who of big names in the industry. She’s collaborated with icons like TBOZ and Chilli from TLC and Sage the Gemini, worked with top producers like Laney Stewart, Tim Kelley, Roccstar and Darkchild, and even had Rob Schneider and Marlon Wayans appear in her Just My Type music video, no big deal. And with her new EP, up to you, dropping this August, Tiana looks to continue making waves in the scene.

Get to know more about this talented Pinay artist by reading our interview with her below.

How would you describe who Tiana Kocher is as a musician?

I feel like one of the things that make me unique is that I can’t really put myself in the a box, hence why I have a hard time describing me as an artist as I’m always evolving. But I guess that is one way you could describe me, consistently evolving and always trying to be my biggest competition.

How would you describe your style of music?

I would describe my style of music as contemporary R&B with pop and soul influences.

Was there a specific moment in your life that made you decide that you wanted to become a musician?

I wouldn’t say there was a specific moment in my life that made me decide that I wanted to become an artist as I’ve always gravitated towards the arts and music specifically. But I do recall watching Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics tour and Stephanie J. Block’s performance in Wicked and both performances really inspired me to take the next step with my training.

How was your childhood like growing up in Manila?

If I could sum up my childhood in Manila in one word, it would be awesome. I’m so grateful to have had the upbringing I had in Manila because it exposed me to so many different cultures and really opened up my eyes to so much.

How do you think your Filipino roots influence your music?

My Filipino roots most definitely influence my music. As we all know the Philippines is an archipelago and there is so much diversity within the country. I would say that translates to my music in a way that I can make each song of mine sound very different.

Tiana Kocher

Where do you find inspiration for your music?

I find inspiration for my music within my surroundings. Whether it’s my daily life, music and different sounds that I hear throughout the day, films that I watch or art that I see in different galleries and museums.

What can fans expect from your up to you EP? How different is this project from your past releases?

This EP is a little different from all the songs that I’ve released prior! I’ve definitely experimented with a slightly more pop leaning sound as I’m releasing the EP towards the latter end of summer.

How do you know when a song is a bop?

If you play it for people and they are already singing along after hearing it once!

Despite still being a rising star in the industry, you’ve worked with your fair share of big names. Do you ever find yourself having those “pinch-me” moments in your career?

All the time! Whenever I work with a producer or an artist that I look up to, I definitely have to pinch myself because it all still feels like a dream.

Which artist that you’ve worked with that you were truly starstruck by?

TLC! Working with T-Boz and Chilli was a dream and I was definitely at a loss of words for a good chunk of the recording session.

What do you think it is about you that helps you stand out in the industry?

Apart from considering myself ever evolving, I would say it’s the way that I look. There aren’t many Asian’s and Hispanic’s in the R&B game. There also weren’t many when I was growing up so I never had anyone to look up to, but I do wish to be that for little girls out there who never saw themselves represented in the music and entertainment industries.

Tiana Kocher

What does it mean for a Filipino like you to be seen as a rising star in the R&B scene in terms of representation?

It means everything! I’m always proud to represent my heritage and my country. I’m so thrilled Filipinos are getting the recognition they deserve.

What song/s of yours should would-be fans check out if they want to know more who Tiana Kocher is?

Definitely Slow it Down ft. Bobby V because it marries classic and contemporary R&B and it has a really awesome feature!

Referencing a Hannah Montana season 2 episode where Selena Gomez guest starred as rival pop star Mikayla, @mazzypopstar on X (formerly Twitter) posted a clip of the two characters’ iconic verbal spar while on a fictional call-in talk show.

Miley and Selena, as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana in Hannah Montana and Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place, respectively, were Disney darlings and breakout superstars in their own right. They’ve been friends since the late aughts, and—as is unfortunately normal in celebrity culture—have also been rumored to be rivals like their Hannah Montana characters. This was driven by the fact that we apparently can’t let two young women share the spotlight side-by-side (even today, ahem) and by the Miley-Selena-Nick Jonas love triangle.

Even these days, as the news about their new music comes out and people on the internet are digging up remnants of the past, people are still speculating about their rumored feud. Regardless of what went down over the years, the two have shown their respect and love for one another all throughout their careers.

Just in the last few years alone, they’ve crossed paths and reached out to each other online, calling each other “old friends.” Selena even guested on Miley’s Instagram Live show to talk about mental health and living with bipolar disorder.

POP MUSIC’S BARBENHEIMER

The same-day release caused people to refer to the Barbie/Oppenheimer phenomenon, calling this “pop music’s barbenheimer.” And just to make things extra spicy, Ariana Grande is also releasing music on the 25th, albeit the digital deluxe release of Yours Truly in honor of its 10th anniversary. Pop music is going to be wild this Friday.

And playing on the hype, Miley and Selena also utilized X and Instagram to ride the wave of nostalgia and joint social media virality. Miley took to X to respond and partake in the trending viral memes about her and Selena. She quoted the clip of the telephone feud, captioning it “.@selenagomez and I are both dropping our new SINGLEs SOON…..I SAY WE #USEDTOBEYOUNG .”

She also posted a clip from her upcoming documentary special Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions) where she imitates the viral meme of Miley Stewart saying goodbye to the Malibu home in the Hannah Montana season 3 finale.

Selena also took to Instagram Stories, posting the same telephone feud clip. “@Mileycyrus and I both have a SINGLE SOON and we are releasing on the same day…We have been friends since we USED TO BE YOUNG. Excited for August 25!!!”

SELENA AND MILEY TODAY

Selena Gomez, thriving as a musician, producer, actress, and beauty entrepreneur, last released an album in 2021—a Spanish-language EP titled Revelaćion and has lent her vocals to features in songs by Rema and DJ Snake. Her recent screen stint as producer and lead actress on the mystery-comedy Only Murders in the Building (currently airing its third season on Hulu) earned her critical and audience acclaim, and her cosmetics brand Rare Beauty is well-loved across the world over.

Miley Cyrus has continuously revamped and reinvigorated her versatile career through strong, authentic music with her latest release Endless Summer Vacation (2023) and its successful lead single Flowers. As acclaim for her stellar rock vocals grows, so does a more widespread recognition of her talent and ability beyond Hannah Montana and Wrecking Ball. Nostalgia and legacy are taking center stage in the current wave of pop culture, and since Miley has been an integral part of youth and pop culture from the late 2000s to the present, people think she could definitely pull off an “Eras tour” of her own.

If you grew up with these two on your screen, then you know it’s a special, nostalgic feeling to watch them interact and take on the world with no signs of stopping for years on end, despite all the wild media coverage they’ve faced. So mark your calendars: Miley and Selena are coming back with new music on August 25th to prove that they’re generational pop culture icons—and they’re going nowhere but up.

How To Recreate The Trending Strawberry Girl Lewk, According To These Gen Z Stars

line
It's giving Strawberry Shortcake realness.

The Strawberry Girl lewk is surprisingly simple! Just peep AC Bonifacio, Criza Taa, and Ashley Del Mundo for the tutorial.

From Cherry Cola lips, we’re in for something sweeter and food-based with the Strawberry Girl makeup look. Only this time, we’re all about flushed and freckled cheeks. Think of the trend as a no-makeup makeup look, but with that post-beach glow (or maybe, post-strawberry picking glow).

The Strawberry Girl makeup look serves radiant, sun-kissed skin, with luscious lashes, and a touch of berry-pink-red blush. It’s like taking tomato girl summer and adding that sweet, Strawberry Shortcake realness. While we’re mimicking the seeds of an actual strawberry, the Strawberry Girl lewk is surprisingly simple—no stress. Just peep celebs AC Bonifacio, Criza Taa, and Ashley Del Mundo for the tutorial.

AC Bonifacio

grwm strawberry makeup + small kwento hehehehe

With those amazing red curls, AC Bonifacio is already rocking the Strawberry Girl look. Still, that didn’t stop her from recreating the trend. In a chill GRWM video, she’s serving Strawberry Shortcake realness while spilling the tea about her most spontaneous trip from Korea to Bali. Girl? Let’s absolutely talk about those travel goals!

To achieve the lewk, the trendsetter blends the Ready Set Glow Badass Face Tint in Over the Moon with the Rare Beauty Positive Light Luminizer in Enchant. While admitting she isn’t always a blush girlie, here’s her go-to trick: she grabs a blush brush and casually sweeps that combo across her nose, lids, and cheekbones–no biggie. And AC Bonifacio, being extra as always, sets everything with an added layer of blush.

If you’re looking for funny GRWM videos, Criza is your girl. Seriously, I had to rewatch everything because I’m all about her humor.

In her recent TikTok post, the actress and content creator recreates the OG Strawberry Girl look—with freckles and all. She starts off slowly with a bright pink SHEGLAM blush, swiping it over the tip of her nose and her cheekbones. Moving on, she creates faux freckles by dotting on a SHEGLAM freckle tint. Her trusty tip? Pop those bad boys in the most random places to keep ’em looking totally au naturel.

Ashley Del Mundo

@lallainashleyy Had to try it out 🍓 #strawberrymakeup ♬ original sound – 🌛

Ashley’s take on the trend is perfect for everyday makeup—it’s just that easy. Is everyone starting school next week? Well, better take notes.

Just like AC Bonifacio, she’s blending blushes to serve that very berry lewk. She tops the Lucky Beauty Blush and Lip Cream in Delicate with a Rare Beauty Soft Pinch blush in Happy. Seemingly going for that all-pink glow, she slays the look with a soft shade of Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss.

Breakup Blues: 12 Movies To Help You Move On

line
You got this.

Good films to keep you company as you navigate this change in your life.

Related: 8 Rom-Coms With Less Than 50% On Rotten Tomatoes That You Should Definitely Watch

Breakups are tough. But surround yourself with good friends and open yourself up to a good time with this mix of movies, and hopefully you’ll get through it safe and sound.

SOMEONE GREAT (2019)

The raw pain of a fresh breakup and the power of female friendships take center stage in this reverse rom-com starring Gina Rodriguez as Jenny, Brittany Snow as Blair, and DeWanda Wise as Erin. Jenny, fresh from a breakup with longtime boyfriend Nate (Lakeith Stanfield), embarks on one last hurrah with her girlfriends before she leaves for a job across the country while navigating a life without whom she thought was the love of her life. The film is honest and hilarious, and cathartic to watch.

BEGIN AGAIN (2013)

Gretta (Keira Knightley) is a singer-songwriter who recently broke up with longtime partner, successful musician Dave (Adam Levine), after he admitted to cheating on her with an assistant. As she performs at a bar, recently-fired music producer Dan (Mark Ruffalo) sees potential in a partnership, and they begin production on her solo album as they work through problems in their own personal lives. With charming performances and a beautiful soundtrack, Begin Again will hopefully inspire you to do exactly what its title suggests.

LOVE AND MONSTERS (2020)

This is not your typical watch after a breakup, but Love and Monsters is a fantastical monster adventure with themes of companionship, family, and of course, love. Dylan O’Brien stars as Joel, a survivor of the monster apocalypse, who embarks on a journey to reconnect with Aimee (Jessica Henwick), his girlfriend he was separated from seven years ago. Fun, thrilling, and original, Love and Monsters will keep you entertained but emotional enough to process your feelings after your breakup.

HOW TO BE SINGLE (2016)

“The thing about being single is…you should cherish it.” Preach it, Dakota Johnson. In this comedy, Alice (Johnson) tries to relish her newly-single life, guided by the wild Robin (Rebel Wilson). Other relationship hijinks ensue between Lucy (Alison Brie) and Paul (Colin Jost), who break up because Paul was seeing other people thinking it was what they were doing, and a pregnant Meg (Leslie Mann) and seemingly uncommitted Ken (Jake Lacy). It’s awkward and funny and just a lighthearted watch perfect for a girls’ night.

LA LA LAND (2016)

By now we all pretty much know how La La Land ends. The musical film is an ode to classic Hollywood and a commentary on the perpetual question of love vs. dreams. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are incredible as Mia and Sebastian, and the film progresses with so much heart. Its whimsical, romantic premise gives way to the realities of life and the sacrifices we have to make to achieve our dreams. Whether you relate or not, La La Land will get you right in the feels.

DO REVENGE (2022)

Revenge never felt so good. Kind of. Do Revenge sees Drea (Camilla Mendes) and Eleanor (Maya Hawke) strike a deal to “do revenge” on each other’s enemies. Drea is the victim of a video leak allegedly done by her ex-boyfriend Max (Austin Abrams), and Eleanor is the subject of a false rumor spread about her years ago. Light, funny, and playful, this movie will hopefully lift your spirits.

TICK, TICK…BOOM! (2021)

Tick, Tick…Boom! is a movie adaptation of the musical by the same name. It follows the story of real-life musician and composer Jonathan Larson (played by Andrew Garfield) as he navigates life as a struggling artist trying to make it in the theater industry. In his obsession with a successful career, he struggles with his relationships—with his partner Susan (Alexandra Shipp), and his friends, particularly Michael (Robin de Jesus). Despite technically not a breakup movie, Tick, Tick…Boom! is a poignant and moving tribute that will make your heart soar. The musical is also currently being staged in the Philippines by 9 Works Theatrical.

THAT THING CALLED TADHANA (2014)

A journey driven by heartbreak and an unusual situation that brings two people together marks the premise of classic Filipino movie That Thing Called Tadhana. Angelica Panganiban stars as Mace, a heartbroken, traveling woman, who finds a friend and maybe something more in kind, empathetic Anthony (JM de Guzman). Filled with endless hugot, charming chemistry, and beautiful settings, this movie is an ode to moving on, new beginnings, and hope. If you’d like, embark on a similar trip that they took in the movie from Manila to Baguio to Sagada in an effort to find out where broken hearts go.

BIRDS OF PREY (2020)

A wild superhero romp starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn fresh from a breakup with the Joker makes for a night of action, powerful women, and colorful, crazy antics. Birds of Prey sees a team-up between an ensemble cast of vigilantes and a detective trying to stop the plans of an evil crime lord. This engaging, thrilling, female-led film filled with fun performances is the perfect distraction from wallowing.

LEGALLY BLONDE (2001)

The entire premise of Legally Blonde literally centers on a strong, independent woman who needs no man to succeed. Despite no one believing in her, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) gets into Harvard and excels at law school with her signature pink everything and out-of-the-box thinking. A forever classic, Legally Blonde has taught us to celebrate independence and the capabilities of women.

STARTING OVER AGAIN (2014)

The adorable, hilarious, and very real Starting Over Again asks painful questions and rehashes hopes of a love lost. Starring Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga as Marco and Ginny, respectively, the movie sees the two former lovers meet again long after a rough, abrupt end to their relationship. Stellar performances make for emotional and heartwrenching scenes that will get you laughing and crying all the while.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS (2014)

Told through song and a nonlinear narrative, The Last Five Years chronicles the ill-fated relationship of Cathy (Anna Kendrick) and Jamie (Jeremy Jordan) and everything they went through in the five years they were together. The Last Five Years is based on a musical, and the Philippines will actually be staging it this September and October, starring Gab Pangilinan as Cathy and Myke Salomon as Jamie. Reliving pleasures and pains is cathartic in its own right, and we hope the wonderful songs and dynamic story in this film carries you through it all.

This Spongebob SquarePants Collaboration With A Local Beauty Brand Makes For The Best Day Ever

line
Add to cart? Aye, aye, Captain!

With this collection, Careline Cosmetics definitely unlocked their imaginatiooon.

From mermaid makeup lewks to South Sea pearl moisturizers, beauty trends are diving deep into blue waters. Another trend that’s caught in our fishnets? The school of collaborative collections. BTW, it’s no longer limited to famous folks—cartoon characters are now taking center stage. And as a Y2K kid, nostalgia hits hard with this recent collaboration from Careline Cosmetics. Needless to say, the local beauty brand unlocked their imaginatiooon.

Growing up, we’ve all heard the tunes of a scruffy pirate, who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Yes, SpongeBob SquarePants! I’ll spare you the rest, but I know the entire Bikini Bottom crew holds a special place in our childhood, whether it’s SpongeBob’s squeaky laugh or Squidward’s sassy attitude. Are your carts ready? Aye, aye, Captain!

Spongebob Squarepants x Careline Cosmetics

As a beauty girlie, my apartment is filled with the latest lipsticks, blushes, and bronzers. Now my home feels like a pineapple pad. I mean, the SpongeBob SquarePants x Careline Cosmetics collection definitely served something different. While I appreciate a healthy dose of nostalgia (I’m a Y2K kid after all), what I’m loving about this splash of new products is snagging the biggest goodies without breaking the bank. Of course, seeing Sandy, Gary, and Patrick front and center on the packaging.

Grab your flippy-flippers and scuba gear, because we’re diving deep to Bikini Bottom.

Countour Y’all

First stop, Sandy Cheeks with Contour Y’all. According to our favorite seawater squirrel, it’s prime time to sculpt those facial features. Even if contouring gets a little swamping sometimes, don’t let the cream-based formula fool you. Contour Y’all is all about that terracotta-toned shade, serving you a natural sun-kissed lewk.

Oh My Blush

This liquid blush-on is a perfect natural-looking flush on the cheeks! Personally, Oh My Blush is a new fave—it’s buildable, blendable, and enriched with Vitamin E. The only problem? Picking favorites is impossible with these four stunning shades: Girly Girl, Pink Patricia, Red Ahoy, and Shell Pink.

Shimmery Splash

Growing up, Pearl Krabs was my ultimate bias. Seeing her Shimmery Splash in the collection genuinely makes me happy. Just like Pearl, this liquid highlighter is all about that pretty-in-pink vibe. When they’re blended and melted into the skin, it totally serves a gorgeous glow.

Now, we totally feel you–we’re all fin-flipping to the closest store for that Spongebob SquarePants x Careline Cosmetics collection. But honestly, I’m crossing my fingers for an actual Spongebob Squarepants beauty blender. Imagine the cuteness overload, right?
